Stan Parrish moved closer to finalizing his coaching staff for the Ball State University football team Monday with the announcement that he will keep two coaches from former coach Brady Hoke's staff.
Parrish announced Monday he promoted Jay Steilberg to assistant athletics director for football operations. He also announced that he retained Phil Burnett as the Cardinals' defensive line coach.
Ball State will not keep Ed Stults - the team's former assistant head coach and tight ends coach - and Sidney Powell - the team's secondary coach. With the cuts and retentions, Parrish still has one position to fill on his coaching staff.
Steilberg spent the past six seasons at Ball State as the director of football operations. He works with the team on administrative issues and coordinates non-coaching duties. The 2003 graduate of Bellarmine University also has 12-years experience as an assistant coach at four high schools in Kentucky.
Burnett has also spent the past six seasons at Ball State as the defensive line coach. He previously worked as an assistant for 15 years at Northern Illinois University, Oregon State University, Defiance College and the California University of Pennsylvania. The 1988 graduate of Northern Illinois was a center and long snapper for the university.
