What could be better than watching your football team win the Super Bowl? How about winning $1 million from a 30-second commercial you helped produce?
That's exactly what happened to one Ball State University alumnus last night.
Franklin Hines, a 2006 TCOM graduate, was a production assistant on the winning crew of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl 2009 contest. The commercial Hines helped creators Joe and Dave Herbert produce aired in the first quarter of Sunday's game. USA Today's ad meter rated the 30-second entry this year's top Super Bowl commercial, a rite that earned a $1 million payout to the crew from Transit Films.
"I saw the results and I was like, 'I think we won,'" Hines said, "but I wasn't sure. Once I got the official word from the other [teammates], I was just overwhelmed."
The commercial, which involves two co-workers at the office, a "magic" snow globe and an utterly failed request for a pay raise, aired in the first quarter.
We want to know what you thought of the Doritos commercial. Was it indeed the best during this year's Super Bowl? Was it overrated? What were your favorite Super Bowl commercials this year?
