The Ball State University women's basketball team defeated the University of North Dakota 88-80 in overtime Tuesday night.
The Cardinals outscored the Fighting Sioux 18-10 in the overtime period, including two free throws by junior forward Audrey McDonald after a double technical foul.
For the game Ball State was led by sophomore forward Emily Maggert with 23 points and junior Danielle Gratton with a career-high 21 points.
Junior guard Kayla Bagaason led North Dakota with 27 points. The Fighting Sioux played the final 2:54 of regulation and all of overtime without leading scorer Kierah Kimbrough, who fouled out.
Both teams had a chance to win the game in the final 30 seconds, but the Cardinals had to settle for a deep 3-pointer and North Dakota missed a shot with two seconds left on the clock.
Ball State improved to 9-1 at home this season and 13-7 overall. The Fighting Sioux fell to 2-8 on the road and 10-10 overall.
