TRACK AND FIELD: Two Cards win in first meet back at BSU

A pair of Ball State University runners returned to action with first place finishes Saturday.

Amber Williams, who redshirted during the 2008 season to train for the Summer Olympics, returned to the Ball State track and field team with a win in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.45 seconds at the Bowling Green State University Challenge. Ali Bishel, who missed the 2008 cross country season because of an injury, returned to the track with a win in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:55.46.

Bishel and Williams gave the Cardinals their two wins of the day, as they finished third among the nine teams that competed. Ball State finished behind the University of Cincinnati and Miami University.

Freshman Janae Taylor had two top five finishes in her Ball State debut, as she finished fourth in the 60-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash.

Ball State also had top five finishes as Katie Johnson finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, Jenna Schmitmeyer finished second in the 400-meter dash, Megan Bevans finished fifth in the 600-meter run, Jerrica Edmonds finished fifth in the triple jump, Lauren McNichols finished fifth in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay team finished third.
