The Ball State University track and field team will stay close to home for its third meet of the indoor season at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
Ball State will venture about 35 miles away from the Cardinals' nest to Marion to continue the duration of their indoor season.
"This meet is really close to home," coach Randy Heisler said. "It is only about 50 minutes or so away. Though it's not that far down the road, we are expecting the quality of performance to be high."
Last weekend Ball State traveled to the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington and returned to campus with eight individual bests. Among the top individual times and jumps was fifth-year senior Amber Williams, who won the 60-meter dash.
Junior Katie Johnson also achieved a personal best time for the season in the 60-meter hurdles. Freshmen Janae Taylor surpassed a personal best time by placing third in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Lindsay Bangert placed third in long jump with a distance that holds the spot of the second best jump in the Mid-American Conference.
The Cardinals hope to continue to build off the positive foundation laid at the Gladstein Invitational, Heisler said.
"We are coming in healthy and rested for this one-day competition," Heisler said. "We are trying to gain more ground with each meet."
Indiana Wesleyan's large indoor facilities will give the Cardinals the chance to gain the type of ground they are looking for with a track unlike the traditional six-lane track, Heisler said.
"It is a eight lane oval track and we are taking the entire team," Heisler said. "All jumpers get six jumps and all the throwers get six throws. It should be a decent opportunity to really get a lot of good times and jumps. The girls are still looking to improve upon individual performances. "
The invitational begins 11 a.m. Saturday.
