SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards ready for final home meet

Ball State to face toughest opponent this year, coach says

After more than a month break, the Ball State University swimming and diving teams will finally get a chance to compete this weekend.

The women's team was scheduled to travel to Illinois State University Saturday but did not make the trip because it could not get a working bus.

Ball State will not have to worry about travel this week as they will play host to Eastern Michigan University in the squad's final home meet of the year.

Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said Eastern Michigan is the toughest competition the team will see all year so Ball State will have to come prepared to swim well.

"We've got to give it our best shot," Seibold-Caudill said. "It's our last home meet and the last chance for the seniors to swim at home in front of their friends and family. So we have to have come prepared, but if we give it our best shot, it should be a competitive meet."

The team has not competed since it traveled to Michigan State University on Dec. 13. During break, the team spent a week in Florida training and has been itching to get back to competition ever since.

This meet will also be the first in the competition stretch of the season. With the Mid-American Conference meet a month away, the team is looking ahead to its biggest meet of the year.

Coach Bob Thomas said the team had a rocky first week back with adjusting to its new classes and new daily routine. The team is looking as fast as they have all year, which should make for a competitive meet Saturday, Thomas said.

The men's meet will start at 1 p.m. Saturday and the women to follow at 4 p.m.
