The bad news is that the Ball State University men's tennis team is coming off a loss to nationally ranked University of Illinois last Friday.
The good news is that the Cardinals will try for their first victory of the spring season tonight against an IPFW team it has a history of beating.
"It's hard to tell who's at what level early in the season," coach Bill Richards said. "We just have to expect a tough match and be ready to play. We're not worried about our opponent. We're worried about ourselves."
In the last three seasons, Ball State has won each meet against IPFW, and won 20 of the 21 total games during that time span.
The Mastodons are 0-2 on the season with losses to Wright State and Mid-American Conference team Western Michigan University. IPFW is the first of six schools from Indiana on the Cardinals schedule.
Play begins at 2 p.m. at the YMCA Tennis Center.
"We just have to improve off our performance [against Illinois]," Coach Richards said. "Nothing specific, we just need to make progress."
