MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State tries to even record at 2-2

Ball State University's men's tennis team will look to stay undefeated at home this season as it takes on the University of Dayton on Saturday.

A victory against the Flyers would give the Cardinals an even record at 2-2 for the season.

"It's a match where we are the favorite," coach Bill Richards said. "It's a team that doesn't have the ranking of a Michigan or an Illinois, [which are the two teams that beat Ball State this season], and we have to have the right mind set going into a match like that."

Ball State swept its first home opponent of the season in IPFW 7-0.

The Flyers played one match this season. Dayton was beat 5-0 at home by Ball State's Mid-American Conference rival, the University of Toledo. A power outage in the area prevented the match from finishing.

Saturday's match is at 1 p.m. at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. It is the first of two consecutive home matches for the Cardinals.

"When you're not traveling, you have an opportunity to practice more," Richards said. "Our focus as a team will be conditioning and trying to improve our movement and stamina. We just look for improvement match to match, fight hard and play with a sense of purpose."
