Good luck Nate

Fans will remember quarterback's legacy for years to come

Every once in a while a person gets an opportunity to change his life.

It's not always an easy decision. He can either stick with something that has served him well for years, or he can gamble on something new that has the potential to be amazing.

Ball State University quarterback Nate Davis faced such a decision recently and chose to move on from the team he has led for the last three years.

Davis has decided not to return for his senior year at Ball State, opting instead to pursue an NFL career.

Everything is up in the air from here. It's yet to be seen what round Davis will be drafted in, where he will end up playing and whether his future for that team will be successful.

Apparently, those were all risks the quarterback was willing to take.

And who can blame him?

The Cardinal team Davis has played with since he came to Ball State will look a lot different next year after the departure of several coaches and graduating seniors.

The chance to play for an NFL franchise is difficult to pass up. It not only has the potential to yield millions of dollars, but it also lets Davis fulfill his dream and play on a much bigger, more competitive stage.

Of course, fans of Ball State football will be sad to say good-bye to a player who has helped turn the Cardinal program into a nationally recognized team.

Many fans aren't happy about Davis' decision, but no one should be too surprised.

No matter whether fans are upset at the quarterback's departure, Davis will undeniably be remembered as one of the best athletes in Ball State history.

During his time in Muncie, Davis almost upset national powerhouses, beat rivals, broke records and turned an unknown, unsuccessful team into a historic program.

More importantly, he's brought some spirit back to Ball State athletics.

A great football player doesn't just bring success on the field. He can also rally the support of every onlooker in the bleachers. He can transform a lackluster fan base into the kind of ravenous crowd that this university wants.

That's just what Davis did these last few years.

Maybe leaving Ball State will turn out poorly. Maybe it will be the best decision of his life.

Either way, we wish him luck and want to thank him for giving us a few seasons we'll never forget.
