About 25 students and military veterans gathered in the David Letterman Communication and Media Building to discuss several aspects of the Iraq war.
Topics in the forum included the economic impact of the war, the behavior of servicemen and women and opinions on Sept. 11. There were also video clips discussing the rules of engagement, gender and sexuality in the military and the dehumanizing of the enemy. Perhaps the strongest and most important message; however, was written on a five-by-seven-inch note card that was available to the people in attendance.
The note card was an open letter to newly inaugurated President Barack Obama, urging him to bring United States soldiers home.
"Please show the people of the world that the U.S. is ready to embark on this new path and please show the American people that you have the leadership, judgment and courage to end the war," the letter wrote in its final sentence.
We want to know if you agree with the message that was sent during the discussion forum. Is it time for the United States to end its war with Iraq? Does our country have good reasons to be involved in the war? How do you believe the war affects Ball State University?
