FOOTBALL: Parrish names new conditioning coach

The Ball State University football team filled another void on its coaching staff Thursday that was created when former head coach Brady Hoke left for San Diego State University.

Coach Stan Parrish, who replaced Hoke in December, named Mark Naylor as Ball State's director of football strength and conditioning Thursday. Naylor replaced Aaron Wellman, who joined Hoke's staff at San Diego State.

Naylor, a certified strength and conditioning specialist since 2003, worked for the Cardinals in 2004 and 2005 as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. Parrish was Ball State's quarterbacks coach in 2005.

Naylor began his career in 2001 as a volunteer assistant on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' strength and conditioning staff. Parrish worked for the Buccaneers as an assistant coach in 2002 and 2003.

Naylor interned on the Michigan State University strength and conditioning staff in 2003.

Naylor earned his bachelor's degree from Missouri Southern University in 2003. He then was a graduate assistant strength coach for the university during the 2003 season.

The Cardinals' new director of football strength and conditioning then spent the next two years at Ball State as a graduate assistant while earning his master's degree.

Naylor spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens' strength and conditioning staff. In 2008 he was an assistant on the athletic administrative staff at North Texas University.
