A national rock climbing champion will be a member of the Ball State University women's golf team next season.
Autumn Duke, a senior from Fishers, signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Playing on the Hamilton Southeastern High School women's golf team, Duke averaged a 76.2 as the team won the state championship earlier this school year. Individually, she also finished in first place at the regional tournament and in 10th place at the state finals.
Along with golf, Duke finished in first place at the Junior USA Climbing Bouldering National and USA Climbing Difficulty Nationals in 2004. She was ranked No. 1 in the nation following the championships.
"We are very excited to sign a player of Autumn's talent," coach Katerine Mowat stated in a press release. "She is an outstanding golfer and student-athlete, and is a perfect fit for our system at Ball State. I'm very excited to have the opportunity to coach Autumn."
Duke will be the second Hamilton Southeastern graduate to play for the Cardinals next season. Sophomore Brittany Kelly also attended the Fishers high school and shot Ball State's best score in three of its five tournaments during the Fall season.
