MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards unable to keep up with Evansville in 73-63 loss

The Ball State University men's basketball team fell to the University of Evansville 73-63 Saturday night at Evansville's Roberts Stadium.

The Cardinals struggled to stop the Purple Aces' shooting touch throughout the night, as Evansville shot 24-48 (50 percent) from the field, including 3-of-6 3-pointers and 22-29 (75.9 percent) from the free throw line.

Ball State (4-3) was led by another double-double from senior forward Anthony Newell, his fifth of the season. Newell had a team-high 15 points and 12 rebounds. Three other Cardinals reached double digits in scoring, as senior guard Brandon Lampley had 11 points and sophomore forward Malik Perry and freshman center Jarrod Jones each added 10 points.

For Evansville (5-1), senior guard Jason Holsinger led all scorers with 18 points on 3-6 shooting from 3-point range. Nate Garner and Shy Ely both added 12 points for the Purple Aces.

The Cardinals return to Worthen Arena Tuesday night as they host No. 9 Purdue University (5-1).
