The Ball State University men's basketball team lost to No. 14 Purdue University 68-39 tonight in Worthen Arena.
"Obviously not a good performance for us tonight," coach Billy Taylor said. "We're very disappointed in that we wouldn't play better and show better tonight."
Senior forward Anthony Newell had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cardinals (4-4), who are now 2-7 all-time against the Boilermakers. Freshman center Jarrod Jones added six points and seven rebounds for Ball State.
For Purdue (7-2), sophomore forward Robbie Hummel led the way with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Three other Boilermakers were in double-digits in scoring, as sophomore center JuJuan Johnson had 12 points and senior center Nemanja Calasan and sophomore guard E'Twaun Moore added 10 points each.
The Cardinals, frustrated by Purdue's defense, had a season-high 21 turnovers in the game. Ball State also shot 26.4 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from the free throw line.
