FIELD HOCKEY: MAC honors Cardinals for academics

Forward makes team for 2nd straight year, 3 others recognized

For the second consecutive year forward Brooke MacGillivary of the Ball State University field hockey team was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Team.

The MAC announced Tuesday MacGillivary was one of 12 student-athletes from the conference to receive the honors. Three other Cardinals - Jodi Mann, Melanie Pasillas and Maura Sawicki - were given honorable mentions.

MacGillivary was also a member of the 2008 All-MAC First Team. The exercise science major has a 3.75 grade point average. She was tied for third on the team with a .667 shot on goal percentage and also had three assists in her junior season.

MacGillivary has also been listed for the past two years as a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad. She was part of the Academic All-MAC Team last year along with then-senior Nicole Humphreys.

Mann started all 18 games this season for the Cardinals as a defender. The senior was second on the team with 12 points coming off five goals and two assists. She tied for the team lead and second in the MAC with four defensive saves. Mann has a 3.23 GPA in nursing. She had a 4.0 GPA during the Spring Semester.

Pasillas, who is a social work major, led the Cardinals with a 3.93 GPA and had a 4.0 GPA in the Spring. She had three assists and three defensive saves. The senior has been a member of the NFCHA National Academic Squad for the past three years.

Sawicki played in 15 games for the Cardinals this season as a midfielder. The junior has a 3.30 GPA in exercise science. The 2007 Ball State Presidential Scholarship recipient has also been a member of the NFCHA National Academic Squad for the past two years.
