WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State ends Michigan road trip with split

The Ball State University women's volleyball team remains at .500 in Mid-American Conference play after splitting its weekend road matches by defeating Eastern Michigan University and then losing to Central Michigan University.

The Cardinals were able to complete a season sweep of Eastern Michigan in Friday night's 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17) victory. Ball State defeated the Eagles (9-18, 3-9 MAC) by the same score on Sept. 26.

Freshman setter Brittany McGinnis and sophomore outside hitter Hannah Sullivan collected their third consecutive double-doubles against Eastern Michigan. McGinnis - in her 14th career double-double - had a match-high 50 assists and 16 digs, while Sullivan had 12 kills and 15 digs.

On Saturday, the Cardinals were unable to avenge a 3-1 Sept. 26 loss to Central Michigan and again fell to the Chippewas 3-0 (26-24, 24-26, 19-25, 21-25). Central Michigan (16-8, 10-2) moved into first place in the MAC West with the win against Ball State.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior outside hitter Alisha Green's eight kills. Breivogel added seven kills, while Rio had a team-high 11 digs.

Ball State (11-16, 6-6 MAC) remains at home for the rest of the regular season before beginning the MAC Tournament on Nov. 18.

The Cardinals look to extend their winning streak to 43 in their next match against the University of Toledo at Worthen Arena on Thursday.

Five Things to Take Away:1. The Ball State women's volleyball team swept the season series against Eastern Michigan with a 3-1 win on Friday before being swept in its season series against Central Michigan via a 3-0 loss on Saturday.

2. With the split, the Cardinals remain at .500 in MAC play with a 6-6 record and 11-16 overall.

3. Brittany McGinnis and Hannah Sullivan had their third consecutive double-doubles in the match against Eastern Michigan. McGinnis had 50 assists and 16 digs, while Sullivan had 12 kills and 15 digs. Jennifer Boyd also had a match-high 13 kills and Alyssa Rio had a match-high 23 digs.

4. In Saturday's loss to Central Michigan, Alisha Green led the Cardinals with eight kills, while Rio had 11 digs.

5. The Cardinals look to extend its 42-match winning streak against Toledo in their next match at home on Thursday.
