SOFTBALL: Cards add five players for 2010 season

The Ball State University softball team signed five players to national letters of intent Wednesday to join the team during the 2010 season.

Amanda Carpenter, Alyssa Freiling, Sadie Robertson, Audra Sanders and Lauren Williamson were the five players who signed with the Cardinals.

Williamson is a pitcher and utility player from Highland Senior High School in Anderson. She pitched two perfect games and had a 0.93 earned run average last year. She also had 115 strikeouts compared to 18 walks in her 83 innings on the mound. She hit .282 and had a 1.000 fielding percentage while playing at three positions.

Sanders is a pitcher from Tecumseh Junior-Senior High School in Lynnville, where she pitched six perfect games, 15 no-hitters and 12 one-hitters. She earned First Team All-State honors the past two seasons with her 41-7 record on the mound. She was also the Courier Press Player of the Year in 2008 and Co-Player of the Year in 2007. In her 334 innings on the mound she had a 0.35 ERA and 708 strikeouts.

Carpenter is an outfielder from Santee High School in Santee, Calif. She led East County with a .491 batting average her junior season and was named Second Team All-California. She had a .810 slugging percentage with 57 hits, 17 doubles and six home runs. She also had 28 runs batted in, 53 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.

Freiling is a shortstop from Sequoyah High School in Tulsa, Okla. She batted .386 as a junior and earned all-conference honors. She also plays club softball for Tulsa Shootout Gold, which qualified for gold nationals in 2008.

Robertson is a catcher from Rockwood Summit High School in Fenton, Mo. was the sixth player in school history to have her jersey selected for the Rockwood Summit Hall of Fame. She was selected first team all-conference in each of her first three seasons at the high school and second team all-state as a sophomore.
