Chalk up another win for the Cardinals.
The victory Wednesday night against the Northern Illinois University Huskies bumps the football team's record up to 9-0.
The undefeated Ball State University football team has caught the attention of sports fans across the country, with games airing on national television. Like Wednesday's game, next week's match up between the Cardinals and the Miami University RedHawks will be broadcast on ESPN2.
With only three games left in the regular season, this one counts.
It counts for a team trying to hang on to its perfect record, and it counts for the fans who are running out of chances to see their Cardinals put another one away.
Fans ought to take advantage of every opportunity left to sit in the stands and see the football team in action, but for Tuesday's game, there isn't much of an opportunity.
Part of Campus Alliance's platform in Student Government Association is to promote pride for the team and sponsor fan buses for major non-conference away football games. While the Miami game wouldn't be a non-conference match up, it would definitely help spread the pride of the students.
SGA should organize and sponsor a fan bus to go to the Miami game.
Oxford, Ohio, is less than two hours from Muncie, and gas prices are lower than they have been in months. Covering the cost of a bus for the night would be relatively low.
Students would likely be willing to buy their own game tickets, which can cost as little as $15. Miami also offers four-person group packages that include a meal and a program for $25.
At Scheumann Stadium, fans have been breaking attendance records all season to see the team that is ranked No. 16 in the nation in the Associated Press Poll. SGA would not have trouble finding a bus load of fans who want to attend next week's game.
SGA was flooded with students who wanted to go to Indiana University when it sponsored a bus to the away game earlier in the season. This game was popular partially because Indiana is a Big Ten team, but the Miami game might prove just as popular because of the outstanding season Ball State has had.
The team's success has put the spotlight on not only the players but also on coach Brady Hoke. As much as it hurts to say, who knows how much longer Hoke will be around to lead our team?
Only one home game remains this season, and it falls on "Fruesday," the night before Thanksgiving Break when many students will be headed home.
Tuesday's game could offer students one more chance to see the Cardinals tear up the field, if SGA offers students a ride.
