FOOTBALL: Restaurant benefits from Cards success

Heavy crowds at area bars and restaurants to watch BSU last night on ESPN2

Jovial jeers, fist-pumping, hat-grabbing, and chest-bumping. Warning: patrons standing next to you are closer than they appear.

These were some of the sites seen last night at the Buffalo Wild Wings on McGalliard Road during the No. 17 Ball State University 31-24 victory against Central Michigan University.

"We get a little bit rowdy," freshman interior design major Ellie Carrico said. "I hurt my knee when I was chest-butting someone -- it hurt pretty bad."

Not everyone felt daring enough to showcase their cheering vertical leaps, however.

As the Chippewas played host to the Cardinals many fans were wanting two things: a Cardinals victory, and place to escape the 33 degree kickoff temperature at Kelly/Short Stadium.

Mat Townsend, general manager of the Muncie's Buffalo Wild Wings franchise, said he had no complaints about patrons seeking an evening of sporting solace in the facility that he oversees.

"Anytime Ball State plays, our sales are up and this place is packed," Townsend said. "I'm glad to see that the students are really rallying behind them."

In the past three weeks, Ball State has participated in three consecutive nationally-televised broadcasts on ESPN2.

Junior landscape architecture major Josh Jones said all of this winning is helping the fans come together.

"It's very interesting to watch a team that you are connected with," Jones said. "You find a common ground with people, and you can talk to people that you normally may not talk with that much."

That common ground is the Mid-American Conference West Division, Jones said.

"It's going to serve our growth to a formidable conference opponent," he said. "It will be convincing and people will eventually stop doubting us."
