FOOTBALL: Love makes first public apperance since injury

Dante Love opened his life to the media Tuesday afternoon in his first public appearance since suffering a career-ending cervical spin fraction Sept. 20, at Indiana University.

He talked to approximately 30 media members about his frustrations with not being able to play football anymore, his struggles with physical therapy and his plans for the future.

"It's really changed my life a lot," Love said. "I never really thought about not playing football. Now I look at life like I'm blessed to be here because I could have died from this. I just thank the Lord everyday that I'm here."

Love said he attends physical therapy sessions three to four times per week at a Muncie rehab facility. He said he'd like his recovery to progress quicker, but the doctors have told him his therapy is running ahead of schedule.

Coach Brady Hoke sat to Love's left as the senior addressed the media during the 30 minute press conference. Hoke said Love's inner strength during this process has been an inspiration to him and his team.

"He's definitely lifted us as team; he's lifted me as the head coach," Hoke said with watering eyes and a beaming smile. "His attitude and fight and his desire, the toughness that he has. I've been coaching him for four years, so [I] knew that, but it's good to have him back. He kind of straighten us all out sometimes."

Love attended Ball State's last game against Eastern Michigan University on Oct. 25. He will be on the field as an honorary captain during Wednesday's coin flip against Northern Illinois University. The game starts at 8 p.m. and airs on ESPN2.
