FOOTBALL: Cardinals drop to No. 17 in BCS standings

Despite not playing this week, the Ball State University football team continued to move up in the polls, but dropped in the most important poll.

The Cardinals jumped up two spots to No. 16 in the newest Associated Pres Poll released Sunday afternoon. However, Ball State moved down to one spot to No. 17 in the BCS standings released Sunday night.

The BCS standings is comprised of the Harris Poll, coaches poll and six computer polls.

The Cardinals jumped up three spots to No. 17 in the Harris Poll and moved up one spot to No. 18 in the coaches poll. In the computer polls Ball State was tied with Michigan State University for No. 15.

In the AP Poll Ball State received 594 votes - 52 more votes than last week - to move ahead of Brigham Young University and Florida State University. The Cougars remained at No. 17 following a 45-42 win against Colorado State University, and the Seminoles dropped eight spots to No. 24 after a road loss to Georgia Tech.

Of the 65 AP Poll voters, Adam Van Brimmer from the Savannah Morning News in Georgia ranked Ball State the highest at No. 11.

Central Michigan University received one vote and is listed at No. 36 in the AP Poll. This is the first time this season two Mid-American Conference schools have received at least one vote in an AP Poll.

The Cardinals next game will be against Northern Illinois University starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Scheumann Stadium.
