Despite not winning an event in his last competition, a member of the Ball State University's men's swimming and diving team won a weekly conference award.
Junior Austin Laska was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday.
Laska finished second in the 50-yard freestyle at the Indiana Intercollegiates meet during the weekend with a time of 21.53 seconds -ยก- 0.18 seconds behind his personal best. He also finished in fourth place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Ball State was the only MAC team to participate in a competition last week. The Cardinals finished the Indiana Intercollegiates in second place, more than 500 points behind first-place Purdue University.
Ball State will not compete again until Nov. 8, when it plays host to the University at Buffalo.
