SOCCER: Cardinals beat Miami, advance to MAC tournament

The Ball State University soccer team beat Miami University 1-0 Thursday to secure a spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Emily Rein scored the one goal for the Cardinals off a header in the second half.

"We showed a lot of heart, and that's just something we've been lacking lately," Rein said. "And it was so good to see that on the field again, and I think you're going to see it again on Sunday."

Ball State will play the No. 2 seed, Central Michigan University, at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

"Obviously it's a weight lifted off our shoulders to be in the tournament," coach Michael Lovett said. "Now we're just focused and ready to prove ourselves, the way we didn't prove ourselves in the regular season."
