Hair salon to move out of Village store

BoRics' corporate office did not renew lease with owner

After 15 years of cutting hair in the Village, BoRics Family Haircare Center is closing.

Jill Thorpe, a BoRics employee, said the corporate office called the Village store early last week and said the lease would not be renewed. Thorpe said she did not know why the corporation made the decision.

Zita Kramer, the property manager for the building that houses BoRics, at 1609 W. University Ave., said the hair care facility was looking for a smaller location. The Launching Pad, a concert venue, and The Creole Kid, a restaurant, are neighbors to the hair salon in the building complex.

Thorpe said BoRics' final day in its Village location will be Oct. 18, and the salon will vacate the University Square location on Oct. 31.

"I heard that a new location might be built in the city, but until then, everyone working here will probably be moved to surrounding stores in the chain," Thorpe said.

Rumors circulated the community that the reason for the shop's closing was increased rent; however, Myles Ogea, owner of the Village property, said the rumors were untrue.

The Creole Kid and the Launching Pad are not moving anywhere, he said.

Muncie resident Clayton Smith said he remembers when BoRics came to the Village, but has never been there.

"I guess it's a shame that it's leaving," Smith said. "It seems like things don't last very long around there."

Junior telecommunication major Ashely Allen said she had never heard of the salon.

"I don't know how it has been there so long and I haven't heard about it," she said. "I guess I have always got my hair done not in Muncie."

Regardless, Allen said it was a shame BoRics had to move out.

"I may not have heard of it, but I'm sure it was a great place," Allen said.
