When Ball State University coach Brady Hoke saw Dante Love before the game Saturday, it was a reminder of how different the two roles are now.
In the first game Love attended since his football career ended with a spinal injury Sept. 20, Hoke wasn't giving the senior pregame tips. Instead, Love had a couple things he wanted to make sure Hoke knew before he walked onto Ball State's sidelines.
"He's the one in charge now," Hoke said with a laugh. "He gives me the messages."
Love returned to Muncie a little more than a week ago and has continued his rehabilitation as an outpatient at a local physical rehab center. He has declined to grant numerous interview requests from local and national media members, and athletics director Tom Collins said it's Love's decision to determine when, if ever, he is ready to speak with the media.
Love watched the first half of Saturday's game in the coaches' box above Scheumann Stadium's field. Collins said he was excited to see Love before Saturday's game.
"He's just a class act," Collins said. "He has a great attitude, and he wants to be with his teammates. I think that just speaks volumes about Dante."
