FOOTBALL: Ball State improves to 6-0 for first time since 1965

Ball State University used its first shutout since the 2000 season and four second-half touchdowns to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1965.

The then-No.29 listed Cardinals spoiled the University of Toledo's homecoming with a 31-0 victory Saturday night. It was their first shutout since a 29-0 victory against the University of Connecticut in the 2000 season finale.

Redshirt sophomore MiQuale Lewis led the way offensively for Ball State with 157 rushing yards and two touchdown carries. It was the fifth-consecutive game Lewis has rushed for more than 100 yards.

Quarterback Nate Davis completed 18-of-30 passes for 242 yards and added a rushing touchdown. It was the first time in 23 games Davis hasn't thrown a touchdown pass.

Ball State's, ranked 10th in the Mid-American Conference in run defense, held the Rockets to 14 rushing yards on 19 carries.

Toledo was ranked fifth in the conference with an average 174.5 rushing yards per game entering Saturday night.
