Cardinal Filmworks and Harvest Moon Film Festival partner together for Muncie Film Showcase

The annual ArtsWalk began Thursday and will continue through Saturday in downtown Muncie. For the first time, Ball State's Cardinal Filmworks will participate at this year's ArtsWalk at 8 p.m. by showcasing six mini-series of independent films from local filmmakers in the Muncie Film Showcase.

Tonight's CFW event focuses on providing the community with a perspective on the visual arts, and will take place outside the parking lot of the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop, 206 S. Walnut St. Admission is free but concessions will be available as well as a cash bar for attendants over 21, Cheryl Crowder, Muncie Downtown Development program manager, said.

"It's a fun event for people interested in the film industry," she said.

The six films were chosen a month ago from CFW President Jeff Greer after Robby Tompkins, director of education at Cornerstone for the Arts, had approached him about the possibility of incorporating film into ArtsWalk.

"[The films] were selected because they were among the top award winners from the past three years at the Frog Baby Film Festival," Greer said.

Aside from viewing the films, Greer said students will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive specific information on filmmaking opportunities around the city and campus.

"The main reason we're doing this is to provide a network and opportunity to the people of Muncie and to get those interested in filmmaking to connect with each other and with the community," Tompkins said.

Tompkins also said that tonight's event will be somewhat of a "preview" for what's to come at the Harvest Moon Film Festival scheduled for Nov. 13 to 15.

If interested, students are encouraged to bring their film projects to pitch for support, he said.
