Woodworth worth the wait

Students say hall has 'absolute best' food, atmosphere

With its new features, Web-based ordering system and fresh food ideas, it's no wonder why some consider Woodworth Commons to have the best food at Ball State University.

Sophomore journalism education major Tierra Bush lives in Woodworth Complex and has been a witness to the frenzy since it reopened a year ago.

"I think Woodworth has the absolute best food on campus," Bush said. "The atmosphere looks good so it makes it better to eat in there."

From the Della Casa, which serves pizza and other Italian options, to Deli World, which has a wide range of salads and sandwiches, students have a lot to choose from.

"The salads are really good," Bush said. "The lines are always really long."

The renovation of Woodworth Commons was finished by fall 2007. Since then, not only is it a place for students to eat, but a place of studying and socializing.

Director of Dining Jon Lewis said he also has noticed major differences in the Woodworth atmosphere.

"Right now it's our most popular facility," Lewis said. "It's serving more students than Noyer and the Atrium. The number of students that go on the weekends has greatly increased."

Although he didn't have exact numbers, he said Dining was hoping for a lively and energetic atmosphere when the renovation was in progress.

"The ambiance is much improved, and the use of extremely warm colors and soft furniture is improved from the white walls it had before," Lewis said.
