BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ball State University women's volleyball team opened play in the Indiana University TIS Bookstore Invitational with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-14) loss at Indiana's University Gymnasium today.
The Cardinals (3-9) were able to force 20 ties and eight lead changes total in the first two sets before the Bearcats (7-3) were eventually able to pull away.
"I thought the first two games we played pretty average," Ball State coach Dave Boos said. "I thought we were playing a team that if we were playing at a little higher level, then we could have won those sets."
In the third set, Ball State hit .000 as a team, while Cincinnati hit .727.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior middle blocker Alisha Green. Green hit .455 for the match while collecting six kills and one error. Freshman libero Kaylee Schembra also added 11 digs for Ball State.
The Bearcats' sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Niemer paced the offense with 14 kills and a .538 attack percentage for the match. Setter Annie Fesl added 39 assists and five digs.
Ball State next plays against host Indiana at 7:30 p.m.
