Censorship, the one thing that limits artistic freedom, is exhibited everywhere, in any art gallery, and in any sort of public facility.
These issues and others concerning artistic freedom will be discussed at "Art in a Democracy," a public forum hosted by Gallery 308 at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4800 West Bradford in Muncie.
The program is moderated by Patsy Donn, and the panel includes local artists and historians such as Mark Sawrie, Bill Inman, Juli Eflin, Jim Faulkner and Lucinda Rarick. Admission to the event is free.
Panelists are prepared to discuss specific issues related to artistic freedom, such as: Does it matter where the artist expresses him- or herself? How can non-mainstream art magazines advertise the so-called Jesus dolls that "walk on water" (and be met with silence) and yet the "Chocolate Jesus" show is attacked by protesters?
