Former Ball State University punter Reggie Hodges signed with the New York Jets Wednesday and will punt for the team this week against the San Diego Chargers.
Hodges replaces former Jets' punter Ben Graham, who was waived by the team Tuesday.
Hodges was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. He played for the Rams in five games that season with an average punt of 38 yards. He also played with the Philadelphia Eagles for three games in 2005, averaging 36.8 yards per punt.
Hodges punted for Ball State from 2000-04 and is third all-time in punting average in Cardinal history, averaging 40.2 yards per attempt.
Hodges has not played in a regular-season NFL game since 2005, although he has tried out for multiple teams in training camps.
The 1-1 Jets play against the 0-2 Chargers on Monday Night Football, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Monday on ESPN.
