Homecoming Day carries with it the portent of great battle; likewise the afterparty will inevitably be an evening to live in infamy for the remainder of the semester. For those who have a taste for a drinking environment that does not include beer pong or an excess of rap music, Muncie might have found the remedy.
At the end of last year some Muncie businesses surveyed students to gauge their demands of downtown operations and what would make downtown Muncie more student friendly. The Downtown Student Ambassadors came as the result of that survey. Mary McKeen and Ashley Ford, Ball State University ambassadors, worked to plan some fun and affordable events to bring students downtown.
McKeen and Ford worked with Doc's Music Hall and Muncie Indiana Transit System to offer entertainment to follow the game-day activities. Doc's will play host to a free concert at 9 p.m. and will offer drink specials and $5 pizzas and penny pitchers from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The lineup for bands includes local band Midwest Hype and Bloomington bands Totally Michael and Prizzy Prizzy Please.
"It's so hard to go downtown as a student," McKeen said, "so we got the trolley to go from tailgating to downtown."
Saturday's Late Loop will run for free to and from downtown.
