The Ball State University women's tennis team's conference woes continued this weekend in its two shutout losses to Eastern Michigan University and the University of Toledo.
The Cardinals (8-8, 1-4 MAC) have been shut out in all four of their conference losses this season.
The bright spot of the team this weekend was the doubles play of junior Emma Retter and sophomore Katherine Rist. The No. 3 duo won the only matches this weekend for the Cardinals against both the Eagles and the Rockets.
"[Retter and Rist] played a little bit together last year and they have gotten their rhythm back," coach Kathy Bull said. "They were keeping it simple, mixing up their returns, and Emma was really moving well at the net."
Bull said the rest of the team put forth the necessary effort but just could not make any headway against two quality opponents.
"Right now we just lack some confidence," Bull said.
In singles play this weekend, Retter had two three-set losses, falling 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to Eastern Michigan's Sandra Wikstrom and also losing 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 to Toledo's Jenny Belsky.
Ball State returns to play at home on Friday against No. 73 Western Michigan (12-7, 5-0 MAC).
