After two consecutive wins, the Ball State University women's golf team's win streak came to an end Tuesday.
The Cardinals finished 11th out of 15 teams at the Indiana Invitational with a plus 61 in the three-round invitational. Ball State finished 73 strokes behind the event's winner, Purdue University, which was the one team to shoot below par for the two days.
Ball State coach Katherine Mowat said the team did well in the first two rounds Monday but did not finish as strong as it would have liked.
"I definitely think that the team knows we didn't finish it as well as we could have," she said. "We put ourselves in good position [Monday]."
After the first day of competition, Ball State was in 10th place with a 35-over par. The team shot a 307 in the first round and a 304 in the second round before its 314 in the final round Tuesday. The Cardinals were within five strokes of seventh place after the first day but slipped in the standings day two.
"We did well," Mowat said. "[Monday] was a good day. We shot the typical scores that we had been shooting."
Kirsty O'Connor led Ball State with a six-over par in the three rounds to tie for 11th place individually. She shot a 74 in each of the rounds. The score was the best three-round total in O'Connor's Ball State career.
Brittany Kelly, who leads the team in average scoring this year, finished 29th with a plus 13. She shot a 75 in the first round and 77s in both subsequent rounds.
Amy Roberts had the team's lowest single round with a 72 in the second round but had an 87 in the final round. After being tied for 14th after the first day, she finished tied for 46th with a plus 20.
Sarah Windlan tied for 66th overall at plus 28 and Paige Esford finished tied for 77th at plus 33.
The Cardinals return to play Sunday at the Cardinal Classic, which will take place at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
