UPB brings 'Reno 911' character to Pruis Hall

Kyle Dunnigan is last in Best Night Ever comedian series

The University Program Board featured comedian Kyle Dunnigan in the last presentation of the Best Night Ever comedian series this semester at 9 p.m. Monday in Pruis Hall.

Dunnigan has been featured on Comedy Central's "Reno 911" as reoccurring character Craig. He has performed stand up acts for "The Late Show with David Letterman" and also on the "Conan O'Brien Show."

UPB Program Director Nick Hewitt said the Best Night Ever series was a good opportunity for students to see a popular comedian perform for free.

"Kyle Dunnigan is a riot and has had me rolling all night," Hewitt said after hanging out with Dunnigan before the event.

Walking on stage and holding a broom for no apparent reason, Dunnigan began his act by joking with the Ball State University students who joined the audience late. He continued this joke throughout the night as there was no chance of entering the hall filled with more than 650 people without him noticing.

During his act, Dunnigan discussed issues such as relationships, family and Costco Warehouse, a bulk-item distributor store similar to Sam's Club. He also used props such as a guitar and a crowd-favorite effects pedal for overlapping voice samples. After carefully stepping on the pedals, Dunnigan was able to overlap different voice combinations to perform a seductive song to supplement a story of one of his dates.

Freshman religious studies major Adam Papp said he was familiar with Dunnigan's work on "Reno 911" and wanted to experience his stand up.

Hewitt said UPB wanted to present students and guests with a good time out from daily life to watch a hilarious artist.

Freshman social work major Alisha Hoffa said UBP accomplished that goal.

"The Best Night Ever is a great program because it allows students to see comedic entertainment for free," Hoffa said.

Dunnigan closed his act after delivering homemade acoustic guitar songs on topics from anti-drugs to instructional songs on how to seduce a partner.

"Kyle Dunnigan is the hilarious ending act for University Program Board's Best Night Ever series this semester," Hewitt said.
