Delta Zeta sorority, along with the help of some gelatin, brought in more than $5,000 for charity with its annual Turtle Tugs philanthropy Sunday.
Sarah Russell, philanthropy chairwoman for Delta Zeta, said the event was a success despite the poor weather.
"We thought we wouldn't have as great of a turnout as we did," Russell said. "The weather didn't really hinder us much except having all our paper work wet and blowing everywhere."
Seventeen teams competed in the events, all of which involved gelatin, she said. Games included a water balloon toss, an obstacle course, a pie eating contest and tug-of-war, the main event. The event also featured a disc jockey from WCRD and raffles throughout the day, including tickets for Jack Johnson.
All the money raised will be donated to The Painted Turtle, which is a summer camp for seriously ill children.
"Our sorority mainly focuses on philanthropies for chronically ill children, as well as charities for speech and hearing impaired [children]," Russell said.
Delta Zeta alumni and members of other greek organizations also helped organize the event, which Delta Zeta began planning at the beginning of Spring Semester, Russell said.
"We're just really thankful for all the help we've received," she said.
