MEN'S TENNIS: Cards pick up win in conference match

After a 4-3 victory against Northern Illinois University Sunday, the Ball State University men's tennis team remains undefeated in Mid-American Conference play.

Overall, the Cardinals split their matches this weekend 1-1, with a 7-0 loss Friday to the No. 34 University of Notre Dame.

After taking the key doubles point against the Huskies, Ball State didn't transfer the momentum to singles play.

Falling 3-2 in early in singles, No. 6 singles senior Danny Vidal was the deciding factor in the Ball State victory. Being up 5-1 in the third set, Vidal lost three sets before clinching the match 6-4.

"I wasn't going to lose out there," Vidal said. "It felt good as a senior."

As the Cardinals continue their momentum in conference play, they face rival Western Michigan University next week, in a rematch of the 2007 MAC championship game.

Thinking about being 2-0 in MAC play, coach Bill Richards said he likes his team's position going into next week.

"It sure beats the alternative of losing," Richards said. "We will have to play our best match to get the 'W.'"
