The Mid-American Conference honored a Ball State University junior as the conference's men's golfer of the week Wednesday.
Andrew Rhodes earned the honor for his performance at the Marshall Invitational Saturday, in which he tied for 14th overall individually. The junior shot a 72 in the first round and a 70 in the second round to finish with a 142, which was six shots behind the event's winner.
Rhodes' score was the best of any individual from the five MAC schools that were represented at the tournament. The invitational was scheduled to be 54 holes but was reduced to 36 holes and one day because of inclement weather.
It was the first MAC award for Rhodes, who is in his first with the Cardinals, in his career. This season he is averaging 74.43 strokes per round, the third best on the team. His 14th place finish was tied for the best of his collegiate career.
Ball State tied for ninth with Miami University in the 17-team field.
