MEN'S BASKETBALL: BSU's Stovall collects postseason awards

Cardinal earns honors for senior leadership, overcoming injuries

Ball State University senior guard Peyton Stovall was named second team all-senior all-American by the Lowe's Senior CLASS award.

The teams were announced along with the recipient of the Lowe's Senior CLASS award during the NCAA Men's Final Four games. Shan Foster of Vanderbilt University was announced as the winner.

The first and second teams were made up of the 10 finalists for the award based on the online voting results, which took place at seniorclassaward.com. Stovall's second-team honors placed him with Jaycee Carroll of Utah State University, A.J. Graves of Butler University, Brian Roberts of University of Dayton and Sean Singletary of University of Virginia.

"This is a tremendous honor for Peyton and the Ball State basketball program," Ball State head coach Billy Taylor said in a press release. "The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and All-Senior All-America Team pay tribute to seniors who are not only able to achieve on the court, but are also well-rounded and successful off the court."

Stovall was the Cardinals' first finalist for the annual award, which has been presented since 2002 and honors outstanding play and leadership by one senior athlete in six NCAA sports. According to the award's official Web site, the inspiration for the award came from then-Duke University forward Shane Battier, who elected to return to school for his senior year at Duke University rather than become a sure NBA lottery pick.

Also announced Wednesday was that Stovall will receive the 2008 Thomas A. Brady Comeback Scholarship on Tuesday at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. The award is administered by Methodist Sports Medicine and honors athletes who have overcome injury or hardship. The award was named for the founder of Methodist Sports Medicine.

CBS Sports basketball analyst Clark Kellogg will be the keynote speaker at Tuesday's event.

Stovall graduated from Ball State in December with a double major in sports administration and marketing.
