The Ball State University field hockey team tied a school record by having a dozen players make the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Academic Squad.
Elizabeth Blaum, Lauren Cruz, Nicole Humphreys, Jamie Kahn, Katie Kloeckener, Gretchen Lulow, Brooke MacGillivary, Kaitlan Mitchell, Christina Niccum, Melanie Pasillas, Amanda Pavone and Maura Sawicki made the team from Ball State. In all, 12 of the team's 19 players were honored by the association.
It was the fourth time in the careers of Cruz, Humphreys, Kahn, Kloeckener and Pavone they made the squad. It was also the third time Pasillas earned the honor. MacGillivary and Sawicki both made the team for the second time.
The 1997 Cardinals' team also had 12 players earn the award, and, in each of the past four years, at least nine Ball State players have made the national academic team.
The award honors collegiate student-athletes who have a minimum 3.3 GPA through the first semester of the academic year.
