Three Ball State University athletes tested positive for banned substances in the past three months, according to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Two athletes tested positive for a second-time offense and one tested positive for the first time in the tests, which were conducted Jan. 22 and Feb. 15, according to the documents.
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins and Associate Athletic Director Karin Lee could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
In a previous interview, Lee said the athletes' names, sports and substances they tested positive for are not released because of privacy issues. She also said in the interview the athletes, who are chosen randomly, are tested for substances on the NCAA banned drug list, which includes alcohol, marijuana and human growth hormone.
The first-time offender received a 30-day suspension from team practice and competition and the second-time offenders each received a 90-day suspension from practice and competition.
In the two tests, 34 athletes were tested for banned substances. Players from all 18 Ball State intercollegiate athletics teams were tested on Jan. 22 and four were tested Feb. 15, according to the documents.
Five athletes also tested positive for banned substances when 25 athletes were tested Oct. 5, according to another Freedom of Information Act request. Of the five who tested positive Oct. 5, two were second-time offenders, according to the documents.
