Charisma just isn't enough.
Andrews-Albritton '08 is a group of four personable, approachable people who gathered to try to change an organization on campus they felt was not functioning efficiently.
However, it takes in-depth knowledge of the organization to know what needs to stay the same in order to make an effective, positive change.
Campus Alliance has two people with Student Government Association experience as well as two completely fresh faces who will provide the perspective that AA '08 would have brought.
Campus Alliance boasts knowledge of running SGA and knows how to maintain stability and make a smooth transition between slates.
Campus Alliance also has relationships with several administrators who work in various capacities across the university, which will make accomplishing platform goals easier and subsequently allow more to be accomplished.
At their cores, both slates have strengths and weaknesses. An abundance of weaknesses, actually. We feel as if we are choosing the lesser of two evils, which is what politics and voting routinely comes down to.
Campus Alliance should be open to the idea of combining the strengths of both slates to create an SGA that is poised to succeed and bring change. This can be done, and we hope it is.
AA '08, we hope you stick around in SGA and bring your strengths to the table and work together to achieve your goals with Campus Alliance if they're elected.
This works the other way too, AA '08, if you're elected.
Campus Alliance's goal of changing the Writing Competency Exam would be wonderful.
However, AA '08's goal of changing meal plans is also good and would benefit students.
Campus Alliance's determination to bring a resource-awareness week to campus in order to educate students about all of the resources at their fingertips would benefit the entire university.
As could AA '08's goal of increasing campus awareness and pride among all organizations.
No matter who is elected, one thing is clear:
For the first time in awhile, it seems that things at SGA might actually change.
For better or worse is for you to decide when you cast your vote.
Voting starts at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday and closes at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at bsu.edu/votebsu.
