BSU employee claims she was threatened

Police investigate reports of verbal altercation near Student Center

A Ball State University banquet and catering employee claimed she and a co-worker were threatened with bodily harm during a campus event, according to a report filed with University Police Department.

Maetta Vance and another employee were involved in a verbal altercation with two other people not affiliated with the university, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said Tuesday.

According to the police report, the incident took place Saturday afternoon at a smoking area southeast of L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Proudfoot said the suspects had left the scene by the time police arrived.

Neither the report nor Proudfoot would confirm the names of the suspects or of Vance's co-worker.

Sgt. Rhonda Clark of the Ball State Police Department said detectives would finish the investigation by the end of the week.

Anyone who threatens Ball State students, staff or faculty could be barred from campus, Proudfoot said.
