Birthing clinic continues search for stolen stork

Employees and patients at a Muncie birthing clinic are still looking for its stolen mascot that once sat on the front lawn to announce births.

Barb Bechtel, certified nurse and midwife for Expectations Women's Health & Childbearing Center, said "Gregory Peck," a six-foot-tall, wooden stork was stolen last week. Employees and the Muncie Police Department have been searching for the bird, but they had not found it as of late afternoon Thursday.

The stork was stolen twice before, once in 2005 and again last April, Bechtel said.

After the last theft, the birthing center encased the stork's feet in concrete, Bechtel said. The thieves snapped off the leg that supports the mascot when they stole it this time, she said.

Anybody with information about the stork can call (765) 281-9497.
