Because it's Family Weekend, your mom, dad and 1.5 siblings must be coming to visit. You all are going to attend every activity Ball State University has planned.
Or not.
Many students and families will bond at the many activities, ceremonies and campus events throughout the weekend, embracing the university where the students are living.
Other students are going home instead - it's often cheaper for one person to travel than a whole family. Some parents will come to Muncie, buy their hungry students cartloads of food and head back home without ever stepping foot on campus. Students who aren't going to see their parents might spend a few minutes talking to family members as the phone is passed around back home.
And some students don't care about Family Weekend. It's just another weekend which happens to have a football game and lots of family members swarming campus.
Family Weekend - and family time - isn't the same for everyone. Although some schools make it a big deal for all family members to visit, it isn't the most looked forward to weekend on Ball State's calendar.
But that doesn't mean the sentiment behind Family Weekend isn't important. Spending time with people you care about should be a priority, whether they are family, friends, roommates or anyone else.
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, spend time with people you love and do activities you want where you choose. Or if this isn't the weekend to get together, plan one when it's more convenient. If Family Weekend at Ball State sounds good, then go attend all the planned activities you want to. The university has worked hard to make this an enjoyable weekend. But if it isn't for you and your loved ones, find something else to do.
Time spent with family and friends is special. Don't miss opportunities to create and share as many memories as possible.
