GMAC scholarship to be given at game

A few Ball State University students will compete during half-time at Saturday's football game to win a scholarship and a chance to win a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu from GMAC Financial Services.

Five students will participate in the competition, which involves putting on football equipment. The first contestant to dress in all the gear will win a $1,000 scholarship.

Finalists from every university in the Mid-American Conference will be eligible for a drawing that will send the winner to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The winner will compete against students from the Western Athletic Conference and Conference USA for a Chevrolet Malibu or $20,000 toward any Chevrolet vehicle.

Students signed up in the Atrium Wednesday and at the corner of Riverside and McKinley avenues Thursday for a chance to compete at Saturday's football game.

Students received a wrist band, which they must present at the GMAC stand in Arby's Tailgate Town before the game. Students will receive a T-shirt. Five students wearing the shirts will be selected to participate.

Chris Taylor, director of Athletics, Communications and Marketing, said the scholarship give-away means a lot to the athletic department.

"[It's] an effort by the [athletic department] to show students how important their support is to us," he said.
