45 students showcase costumes

Homecoming Royalty Fashion Show brings "celebrities" to BSU

Harry Potter was there. Superman attended. The crowd even got a glimpse of Marilyn Monroe. The 2007 Ball State Homecoming Royalty Fashion Show, held in Pruis Hall, showcased quite a mixture of royalty candidates dressed in their very best.

All 45 royalty candidate pairs took the stage in matching costumes, including pairs such as Schmidt and Wilson Hall representatives Tarrah Troyer and Drew Beringer who dressed as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, complete with all of the kids in tow. Student Voluntary Services representatives Ashley Ford and Kyle Johnson portrayed Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil and Brayton/Clevenger Hall representatives Adrianne Gibson and Chris Ellert portrayed Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin.

Latino Student Union representatives Jeannette Young and Cedric Wilson dressed as Flava Flav and New York, who made their presence known with a loud call of, "Yeah, boy!"

After all the royalty contestants made their grand appearances on stage, Royalty Chairwoman Lindsey Thompson announced the top 10 contestants for the title of 2007 Ball State University King and Queen and the overall winners.

There also was a "Best Dressed" award given to one royalty candidate couple this year. The Homecoming Committee chose three couples: Dr. Phil and Oprah; Mr. and Mrs. Pacman, who were Sigma Alpha Iota's Sara Elifitz and her escort for the night; and Flava Flav and New York.

The recipients of this award were then chosen by judging which "Well-Dressed" couple received the loudest cheers from the crowd. The audience chose Flava Flav and New York to be the winners.

The top 10 Homecoming royalty candidates were chosen by a tally of student votes.

Kimberley Jackson, publicity chairwoman of the homecoming committee, 4,248 Ball State students, faculty and staff took part in voting this year, which was higher than last year.

"Voting was up this year by 123 people," Thompson said. "Good job."

The faculty/staff Homecoming Queen and King, also chosen by students, faculty and staff will be announced at the opening day kick-off bonfire on Oct. 8.

The 2007 Homecoming King, Queen, and court will be crowned Oct. 11 at Air Jam in the John R. Emens Auditorium.
