The Ball State University women's golf team is looking to "bring it all together" as it travels to Arizona to begin the spring portion of its season at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Friday.
It has been almost five months since the team last played competitive golf, but coach Katherine Mowat said the break has helped bring together what was missing in the fall season. In the fall season, Mowat said the team played well, but didn't achieve satisfying finishes.
"There was an underlying sense of frustration with the end result," she said. "It just wasn't coming together, but we've moved on since then."
Team camaraderie has been very important so far this year.
"I'm with them right now and they're singing," Mowat said. "I wouldn't trade that for anything."
Team captain Kallie Harrison will lead a young team into the spring season. Mowat said Harrison's leadership skills were vital to the team.
"She is a leader by example, very goal oriented and focused," Mowat said. "The team respects her."
The team has been working on its game all winter at MD's Golf Academy in Muncie.
"Everyone has their own efforts," Mowat said. "We've been working on confidence, consistency and mental toughness."
