OUR VIEW: On a break

AT?ISSUE:? It's not you, Muncie, it's us ... Well, actually it is kind of you

Dear Muncie,

You've known this was coming.

We made it through the snow blanket, the frigid environment you've left us in night after night and the air that, frankly, blows. We've turned a blind eye to our bragging friends in the south, with their glowing copper skin and ability to use sand in ways we only fantasize about around you.

Still, you storm in, keeping us around through the flirtacious, mid-afternoon showers, making us think things might be getting better. We kept falling for it over and over again, and every time you revert back to your usual February attitude - bipolar at best, and unpredictable for certain.

Muncie, you've left us on the cold curb of McKinley Avenue one too many nights. All things considered, it shouldn't be this hard to say it, but, straight up - we need a break.

We've been going strong since January, but things are just going too fast, too soon. See, we'd rather take things a bit slower -¡- you know, enjoy the finer moments of life. Starting today, we're leaving town for a while ... well, that's what we want to do, anyway.

It's nothing against your fickle, cold nature - we just need a little more warmth to feel comfortable.

Our skin needs a fresh touch, Muncie. We're looking for the type of sun-kissed loving you can only provide four months of the year.

Baby, that just ain't enough.

Don't be surprised if we jet south for a few days to meet up with a friend of ours in a little paradise we'll call our own. She knows how to treat us right from head to toe, with a soft breath of tropical air at bedside to an eye-opening delight by the window at daybreak.

We're looking forward to that sunrise, Muncie. And while we're sipping on our beverage of choice in the arms of a southern afternoon, we'll keep you in mind. Just don't expect us to be returning your calls until we've had our fill.

So Muncie, take all the space you want tonight because we're sleeping elsewhere.

Oh, and when we return, don't be offended by our seemingly besotted stories from the time spent with our promiscuous other. It's nothing against you. We'll be back - at least 'til May.

But that's next week, sweetheart - we're still living for today.
