CLEVELAND - The Ball State University men's basketball season concluded today with a 51-48 loss to Eastern Michigan in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Cards end their season with a 9-22 record.
After being down 15 points in the first half, the Cardinals cut Eastern Michigan's lead to 49-47 with less than 30 seconds to go. Micah Rollin hit the first of two free throws to cut the lead to one, but missed the second. Anthony Newell grabbed the rebound, leading to a Skip Mills 3-point attempt, which was no good. It was as close as Ball State would come.
Newell led the team with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Skip Mills was the only other player to score in double figures for Ball State. Playing the same amount of time as Newell, Mills had 13 points, four rebounds and shot a disappointing five-of-18 from the field.
Six Cardinals shot from behind the arc, with three of the 20 attempted actually made.
